Coimbatore earned this title due to its massive, historical textile industry. Mirroring Manchester in the UK, Coimbatore is surrounded by expansive cotton-growing fields and houses thousands of spinning mills, textile weaving factories, and garment units. From raw yarn processing to high-fashion fabric exports, the city remains a foundational pillar of India's textile sector.

Coimbatore's main drinking water source comes from the Siruvani River in the Western Ghats. Locally and regionally, Siruvani water is celebrated as the second-tastiest drinking water in the world (after the Nile). The exceptional, naturally sweet taste is attributed to the unique mix of mineral deposits and the roots of medicinal herbs it passes through across the undisturbed forest floors of the Attapadi hills.

Alongside textiles, Coimbatore is known as the "Pump City of India." It manufactures nearly 50% of the entire country's requirements for agricultural, domestic, and industrial water pumps and motor sets. The city's massive engineering ecosystem also led to the invention of the commercial Wet Grinder (used universally to grind batter for Idlis and Dosas), earning it a specific Geographical Indication (GI) tag.

Located at the foothills of the Velliangiri Mountains just outside Coimbatore, the Adiyogi Shiva Statue is a major modern landmark. Standing at exactly 112 feet tall (symbolizing the 112 routes to self-transformation described in yoga), it is recognized by the Guinness World Records as the Largest Bust Sculpture in the world. Designed by the Isha Foundation, it attracts millions of spiritual seekers and tourists globally.
