Gokarna

Unlike typical Shiva Lingams that rise prominently out of the floor, the main deity at the Mahabaleshwar Temple is a Pranalinga—the original Atmalinga from the legend. Because Ravana pulled at it with immense force, the lingam is pulled flush with the ground level and is shaped like a cow's hoof. Devotees can actually touch the sacred stone by reaching their hand into a small, carved pit in the floor.

Gokarna is uniquely famous for its five sequential, crescent-shaped beaches nestled along rocky cliffs. ​Gokarna Main Beach: The long sandy stretch bordering the town, primarily used by pilgrims for ritual holy dips. ​Kudle Beach: A wide, beautiful beach popular for its sunset cafes and relaxed vibe. ​Om Beach: The most famous beach, named because its natural, split-crescent shoreline perfectly resembles the sacred Hindu symbol "Om" (ॐ) when viewed from above. ​Half Moon Beach: A small, tucked-away cove named for its perfect semi-circular shape. ​Paradise Beach: A rugged, rocky beach that was historically a hippie haven, accessible primarily by boat or cliff trek.

The Gokarna Beach Trek is a highly popular hiking trail that connects all five major beaches. Instead of taking roads or auto-rickshaws, trekkers walk a rustic, rocky trail that winds directly over the coastal hills and cliffs. It offers spectacular panoramic views of the Arabian Sea and allows you to hop from one beach to the next seamlessly. The entire trail is moderately easy and takes around 3 to 4 hours to complete.

Kotitheertha is a massive, rectangular artificial holy tank located right in the heart of the town, surrounded by temples and traditional homes. The name means "a million sacred springs." According to ritual tradition, pilgrims must wash away their impurities and take a holy dip in the waters of Kotitheertha before entering the main Mahabaleshwar Temple to offer prayers.
