Thanjavur

Built over 1,000 years ago entirely out of granite (which wasn't locally available), the temple features a massive 216-foot Vimana (tower). The biggest mystery is the Kumbam—the single stone structure cap weighing around 80 tons resting at the very top. Historians are still fascinated by how ancient engineering managed to elevate it there without modern machinery.

By Air: The closest airport is Tiruchirappalli (Trichy) International Airport, which is roughly 55–60 km away. You can easily catch a cab or a direct local bus from there. By Rail/Road: Thanjavur Junction is exceptionally well-connected to major cities like Chennai, Madurai, Bengaluru, and Kochi with frequent overnight trains and express bus services.
