Mookambika
The Sri Mookambika Temple in Kollur, Udupi district, Karnataka, is one of South India's most revered pilgrimage destinations. Set in the valley of the Kodachadri Peak along the banks of the Souparnika River, the shrine is dedicated to Goddess Mookambika (Adi Parashakti).
Key Significance & Legend
Dual Divinity: The central deity is represented as a Swayambhu Linga bisected by a golden line. The left side represents the Tridevi (Parvati, Lakshmi, Saraswati), and the right side represents the Trimurti (Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva).
Consecration: The Panchaloha (five-metal) idol of Goddess Mookambika seated behind the Linga was consecrated by Sri Adi Shankaracharya.
Vidyarambham: Due to the strong association with Saraswati, thousands of devotees bring children here for Vidyarambham (initiation into learning/education), particularly during Navratri.
