The boat will not anchor out in the middle of a massive lake. Instead, it safely moors (ties up) along a quiet lakeside, canal bank, or village shore. This is a fantastic time to step off the boat, take a sunset walk through the local villages, or try some fishing from the deck.
What is the food situation like for a night stay?
An overnight stay includes a fixed menu of 4 fresh meals cooked right onboard by your private chef:
Welcome Drink: Tender coconut water or fresh juice upon boarding.
Lunch: A grand traditional Kerala feast served on a banana leaf, featuring local red rice, vegetable sides, and the famous Karimeen (Pearl Spot fish) fry.
Evening Snacks: Tea/coffee served with local hot snacks like banana fritters (pazham pori).
Dinner & Breakfast: A mix of North/South Indian dishes at night, followed by traditional breakfast items (like Idli or Puttu) the next morning.
Is a night stay safe? What about bugs?
Yes, houseboats are highly safe and are manned by a licensed 3-member crew (Captain, Driver, and Chef) who sleep in a separate crew compartment onboard.
Bug Tip: Because the backwaters are a natural environment, small insects and mosquitoes are active right at sunset when the boat anchors. It is highly recommended to bring mosquito repellent (like Odomos) and keep your bedroom doors closed during the evening.
Are the bedrooms private or shared?
When you book an overnight houseboat, you are booking the entire vessel exclusively for your family or group. Even if you book a 3-bedroom boat but only use 2 rooms, the remaining room is left locked. You will never share the lobby or dining table with strangers.
