Satara, nestled in the Sahyadri mountains of Western Maharashtra, is perhaps the most historically significant city for the Maratha Empire after the era of Shivaji Maharaj. Its name is derived from the "Sapta Tara" (Seven Stars), referring to the seven forts that surround the city.
